As a part of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction observation, BPS has arranged a webinar on “Role of Geospatial Data analysis and visualization for Disaster Risk Management”.
Mr. Ahasanul Hoque, Knowledge Management Specialist at UNDP & Former National Consultant on GIS and Data Management at World Bank was the speaker and Anwar Jahid, Director (Environmental Awareness), BPS was the moderator.
At the beginning, welcome address was given by Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, President, Bangladesh Poribeshbid Society, he said that the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction was started in 1989, after a call by the United Nations General Assembly for a day to promote a global culture of risk awareness and disaster reduction.
It is observed every year 13 October; the day celebrates how people and communities around the world are reducing their exposure to disasters and raising awareness about the importance of reining in the risks that they face. After that the speaker presented his presentation about the Geospatial Data analysis and visualization and their uses in disaster management field in developed and developing countries, and how map and big data support overall country planning, risk identification and risk mitigation. He also discussed about current world scenario and opportunity for environmental professional. More than 84 participants from ES backgrounds and professional joined this program.
